Become a certified Assistant Instructor with SSI. The Assistant Instructor rating is the next step after becoming a Divemaster along the scuba instructor pathway. It allows you to collect valuable teaching experience, practice briefings, teach academics, and conduct in-water training. If you want to further your career as a dive professional, you can finish the Instructor Training Course, pass the Instructor Evaluation, and become an Open Water Diving Instructor.  The total for the course is $1300, which includes instruction, pool training, classroom training, digital training materials (this app is for both this Assistant Instructor Course and later for the Open Water Instructor Course) and materials.

At Arizona Dive Center, we provide hands-on training with experienced SSI professionals, preparing you for real-world teaching scenarios in both pool and open water environments. You’ll strengthen your dive theory knowledge, refine your presentation techniques, and become more confident as a leader in the diving community.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to assist in teaching SSI training programs

  • Conduct Try Scuba and Scuba Skills Update sessions

  • Lead training in confined water under instructor supervision

  • Prepare and deliver knowledge presentations

  • Develop your leadership and communication skills

Course Prerequisites:

  • Be an active SSI Divemaster or equivalent

  • Have a current First Aid/CPR and O2 Provider certification

  • Minimum of 60 logged dives

Digital Learning & Academics

SSI has mastered the use of digital technology to make your learning experience easy.

You can start by studying the academics anytime, anywhere at your own convenience and your selected Training Center will schedule your review and in-water training sessions.

In-Water Training

During the pool/confined water training, your SSI Instructor will teach you all the necessary skills in a controlled environment until you are comfortable and ready to go to the open water. During the open water training dives, you will apply your knowledge and repeat the skills in a real-world environment under the supervision of your Instructor.

Certification

Once you have completed all required training sessions, final exam and open water training dives, your SSI Training Center will issue your digital certification card which will show up instantly on your MySSI App.
